Remote public attestation – the future of public brokerage

In his 20 years of practicing as a public broker, Eduardo de Alba Góngora has been at the forefront of innovation in his field. As Public Broker No. 38 of Jalisco, he is always looking for ways to streamline processes, while also sharing his expertise with the profession whenever the opportunity arises.

Taking the step into the digital world

In this pursuit of efficiency, there was one process that was difficult to change, and it was the most important one: the way of notarizing documents. How could it be improved? Was it possible to digitize the process and provide public attestation remotely? Advanced electronic signatures had the potential to make it possible.

Eduardo knew the theory behind using electronic signatures for legally binding commercial acts. He had long wanted to implement them in his operations as a public notary, but he hadn't found a technology platform with a solid legal foundation to do so until he discovered Mifiel.

The e.firma: an additional layer of security in notarization

Every notarization act requires identity validation of the parties involved: the notary requests an official photo ID from each of the signers and verifies that they are indeed who they claim to be.

When the signature is electronic, the parties do not meet at the offices of Public Brokerage 38, but rather via videoconference, and IDs are presented in a digital format. But there is an additional layer of security: the e.firma.

When signing the contract to be notarized on Mifiel, all parties do so using their e.firma. As a Certification Service Provider (PSC) accredited by Banxico, the SAT issues e.firma certificates, validating the identity of applicants to the highest security standards by collecting their biometric data and linking it to their legal information.

In this way, acts signed with the e.firma on Mifiel and notarized by de Alba are legally ironclad.

Satisfied clients with more efficient processes

Most clients at Brokerage 38 have been pleased with the ease with which they can now notarize their contracts through Mifiel. Previously, it was unimaginable for them not to have to go to Eduardo's offices for an act considered traditional.

This has led to more efficient processes and savings on travel expenses. For de Alba, this has meant being able to work with clients outside of his city.
